Sweethearts of the West is a non-profit equestrian drill team located in beautiful Colorado.  Members are made up of ladies from across the front range sharing a common passion for horses, teamwork, community and leadership.

 We take great pride in our mission our community and our Country.  We believe that promoting a positive image and an awareness of rodeo is the heart of preserving our western heritage. 

Our Responsibilities

Member responsibilities include promoting the western way of life through actions and deeds; participating in community and charity events; promoting the sport of rodeo through education and showcasing drill performances at rodeos and special events throughout the year.   

Membership Requirements

 Open Membership 

August 2019 - April 2020

  • Age - Gals 14 and up 
  • Equitation skill - Drill team experience preferred but not required.  Applicant must possess a competent level of horsemanship and equitation skills to be considered. 
  • Equine- members are not required to own a horse but must have a lease agreement with access to a horse/ trailer to participate (stallions are not allowed).
  • Qualifying Ride - applicant must complete 3 "Qualifying Rides" during open membership to determine level of equitation skill and horse/rider compatibility.
  • Prior Drill team experience may be considered in exchange for number of QR's required
  • Next QR TBA  Interested applicants must register in advance to participate. 
  • Applicants must complete 3 QRs  to be eligible.
  • Performance team is comprised of full and part-time members. However, the Performance team is limited to 20 full-time members each year.  
  • Team Practice - members attend weekly practice rides, every Sunday beginning in March 
  • Event/show season- May through mid August. Must be willing to commit to at least 50-75% of the show schedule.
  • Membership Fee $75  (non-refundable)

 

  • Limited Membership is available for gals interested in membership but unable to commit to the show season or  unable to qualify for the performance team in a given year. Open to both entry level and returning members. 
  • Entry level/new members must still complete the required 3 QRs  on the horse she plans to use. Submit an application and  the $75 fee.
  • Returning Members-submit membership renewal form, renewal fee.

Community & Leadership

  • Horses In Masquerade- presented by Sweethearts of the West Members participate in this annual fall charity event (early October) to benefit the team and the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. 


  • Charity Events - Throughout the year, we volunteer / participate in a variety of charitable events, most of which occur during our off season. Member participation encouraged, not required.
  • Leadership Each year a select member is awarded with a custom belt buckle from Montana Silversmiths for her outstanding leadership; commitment to the mission; volunteer hours; team dedication, and overall performance.


  • Volunteer Spirit - Awards given to top 3 members and or volunteers who have contributed the most hours throughout the year.


  • Community Spirit - Awards given to top 3 members and or volunteers who have contributed the most hours towards community /charity events throughout the year.


Volunteers

Sweethearts of the West is a 100% volunteer organization.  We do not charge for our performances. However, we do welcome donations.


  • Team support - In addition to the performance team we welcome and encourage the support of  volunteers - friends, family and like-minded individuals who enjoy giving back to their community. 


Various volunteer opportunities include but not limited to:

  • ground support at events-gates
  • first aid
  • photography
  • costumes
  • flags
  • off season events-various 


Volunteer fee $25 optional - this fee goes towards uniform and liability expenses.


Volunteers who contribute $25 or more are allowed participation on the planning committee with voting privilege.
